There has been a big fire raging in the Griffith Park area of Los Angeles. I has so far scorched 600 acres of the historic park. Thankfully all the landmarks: The Griffith Park Observatory, Los Angeles Zoo, Travel Town, That Place Where I Used To Ride The Ponies (ok, it is important to me, and to the ponies), The Train Museum, and the Hollywood Sign were saved, and none were damaged.
300 homes had to be evacuated. Why is this story near and dear to my heart? Not only because I live in LA, but also because my best friend Cristen was evacuated. All residents were allowed to return home today, and only one home suffered damage.
At present time the fire is 40% controlled. They think it may have ben started by a discarded ciggarette (guess Smokey the Bear was right) and exacerbated by the unusually high temps and Santa Ana winds.
