Haven been on in a While...

Yeah, for the most part, powting fizzled and stopped over the summer. there were no classes nor homework to procrastinate from, so why bother.

Anyways net net its finals time here at the illustrious Georgetown University (i fled RISD with more zeal then the irish diaspora) and now i am sitting in my bed with my Christmas tree "studying" for my 4 finals in three days.

This morning at breakfast I got into another idealistic-collegate talk about politics. It was a discussion stemming from my odd perseptions of art: having studied it I can appreciate the masters technically surely, and find some odd satisfaction in seeing how many different ways people can complete and interpert an assignment, but i feel the study of something influencial, such as medicine or politics, is in general far more noble. The person I was having this discussion with countered me, saying that many of the congressmen today are successful buisnessmen or lawyers who are now seeking a different type of power. I was (of course) arguing the idealistic point: serving the constituency, looking out for the tired, hungry and poor. I argued that the people on M and Wisconson who were holding up the "Stop Bitching and Start a Revolution" shirts bugged the shit out of me, because they were completing nothing. I am studying so that I can know enough about the international system to hopefully take all my idealistic tendancies and work them within the system.

Anyways. So I'm researching this paper, and I stumble accross this quote from Foreign Affairs:

Rising wealth meant that more and more people were
able to fleewhat KarlMarx and Friedrich Engels had called"the idiocy
of rural life": between 19oo and r98o, the proportion of the world's
population that lived in large cities more than doubled. And byworking
more productively, people had more time available for leisure. Some
spent their free time successfully campaigning for political represen-
tation and the redistribution of income. As a result, governments ceased
to confine themselves to providing only basic public goods, such
as national defense and a fair judicial system, but instead became
welfare states that sought nothingless than the elimination ofpoverty.

Stop Bitching and Start a Revolution?

boring politics break; for interesting socialite news skip to next post

sorry to break from carly's much more engaging life below, but since it's officially now 07-07-07 (and my dad's birthday, random fact), i felt like including this little tidbit i came across regarding al gore's LiveEarth concerts today across the globe. it perfectly illustrates the hypocrisy of the whole "celebrities really care about the environment" movement...you know, the hollywood set (not you, carly) decrying global warming and pollution and then rolling up to premieres in limousines. and those are not hybrid limos. don't get me started on private jets. using them is fine, just don't claim they're "green."

http://pajamasmedia.com/2007/07/gore_aid.php

excerpt: “When we’re using enough power for 10 houses just for (stage) lighting… It’d be a bit hypocritical,” Matt Helders, drummer of the popular British band, the Arctic Monkeys told the Agence France-Presse.

Most surprisingly, Bob Geldof, the musician and Nobel Prize nominee who founded the Live Aid and Live8 concerts, singled out Gore in particular, asking, “Why is Gore actually organising them? To make us aware of the greenhouse effect? Everybody’s known about that problem for years.”

so why doesn't gore just announce that he's running for president already? or are we all supposed to believe that's not what most of this is about?

All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up.

See, the last time we checked in with ME, the illustrious Carlisle, I was running around Hollywood, crashing parties and being seen. Teddy's, Winston's, Skybar; getting picked up from the studio and having lunch with Cristen at the Ivy (on the patio of course) and catching Wicked after dinner at the Chateau Marmont and fun in those bungalows.

Well, you might have thought I just glided off in a poof of gold glitter to live a life rubbing elbows. However; my parents decided to perpetually live on Martha's Vineyard and, since they pay for, well life, I too am now here, rubbing elbows with seersucker blazers, waiting for all of my friends to get their asses out here and entertain me.

I'm writing a script with Cristen, so I guess that and tanning keep me entertained. I would usually take the time to comment now about all celebs; Paris popping in and out of Jail (maybe she has changed, i can't tell) Linds being sober (I actually have faith in this girl) and the Concert for Diana featuring my fiancee Prince Harry (many can vouch, I look DAMN good in a tiara).

Speaking of the concert for Diana, it was SPECTACULAR. EVERYONE was there: Elton, Fergie, The Feeling, Kiefer Sutherland, Diddy, Becks, I mean freaking everyone. I sat in my red satin robe from 11-5 watching this, breaking only to get tea and toast. I HIGHLY suggest you go to youtube or VH1 and check all of them out. here are my faves.

1. ) Diana's Fave Band: Duran Duran. Hott song. Literally. Its hot in the southwest.

2.) Fine, I'll admit it; Diddy made me cry. Supposedly the princes were trouched.

3.) I didnt know about Joss really till now, and I love her. Supposedly she and Wills are CLOSE (there is obvious flirting here)

4.) Lily. LOVE HER. Think i should become her new best friend.

Anyways. Be Back Later Loves.

it's been too long

hello, darling readers. sorry for my long absence from posting. i took a hiatus while sorting out summer plans (pittsburgh is my base for the summer) and then a short vacation to hang out with two of my very favorite people (bacon and ben) in washington, d.c./northern virginia while moving into my apartment in charlottesville (ben, you were invaluable in helping set up that desk. really. bacon, you were invaluable at...finding hookah bars).

in other news, i've switched the picture at the top of the blog again. i thought it was time to go back to marilyn...i'm feeling a little old-school hollywood, even though all three of your lovely writers are now on the east coast for the time being. any objections, let me know.

there's not much to update on my life right now...i'm working during the day and developing a project of my own on the side, so stay tuned for news from that as i iron out the kinks and work with the ever-amazing erika chow on some programming issues. hint: i'm out to singlehandedly take down the two-party system, and all of the partisan nonsense that goes with it. who was it that said "that government is best which governs least?"

but in the meantime, i feel that strange compulsion to share with you all two video clips: one long and so-serious-it's-almost-funny, and one short, obviously hilarious. watch a bit of the first and then lighten up with the second. they star two rising celebrities of the democrat party (i warned you, i'm becoming rabidly antipartisan. is that a word?).

al gore: "bush ('41) hasn't done enough in iraq to stop saddam and WMDs"

hillary: nevermind...just listen. and pray she doesn't try to record a duet with celine dion for her campaign.

and oh, what the hell, if you got through those two, you deserve something fun. here's lily allen with "smile." love her!

love you all,
emma

Brokie's Life Lately

I guess my co-writers and I have been too busy to keep you all updated on random stuff this summer. I thought I'd let you in on what's been on my mind lately... you know, for old times' sake.

1) The iPhone: Which I won't own come July 29th because I don't have a job yet and my mom refuses to let me permemnently borrow $500 to buy a cel phone. So, instead of sitting outside my neighborhood 7Eleven shaking a foam cup at unsuspecting pedestrians, I decided to start not one, but TWO jobs next week. Oh the life of a working girl.

2) Kat DeLuna: I have a lot in common with this rising star. Our names sound the same (my firends call me Cat), we're both Dominican, we both know how to shake what our mommas gave us, and we're pretty cute :D This is her first single called "Whine Up" featuring Elephant Man.

3) Enur: Don't know much about this person/band (?) except that this song is catchy. It's called "Calabria."

4) Parallel Parking: It's the only thing I can't frikken do in a damn car. If anyone has a trick they use or anything ANYTHING that can help me learn how to do this please help me out. I want my liscence!

5) That asshole who tried to sue his local dry cleaners for $54 million: Seriously dude, for some lost pants?? Get a life... and send your clothes somewhere else genius. Here's the rest of the article from the New York Times.

6)NYC: I just got back from my trip to NYC and it was AWESOME! It was the first time I'd been back since I was like 12 or something... I went house hopping and stayed with a few friends and relatives. Fun fun city... I'm so living there one day.

I randomly saw Jade from America's Next Top Model at some restaurant and Jenny McCarthy at the Ripley's Museum premiere while I was in Times Square...

That's it for a while I guess...

-Brokie
